About

My name is Kevin Horst, and this is my blogging and portfolio hosting site for course COM561 at Washington State University.

History

I grew up in Seattle, Washington, USA during the 1960’s and so many of my values and priorities come from that era, though most certainly expanded and moderated since. Both my parents are World War II veterans, one who served in the Royal British Navy and the other, reluctantly, in the United States Army in France.

Standpoint on Technologies

During my life, I have seen and worked with a wide variety of technologies – how they achieve their intended purpose, but mostly how they are mostly used as a way to delay making effective and endurable ‘hard’ choices. Recently, it has been ‘remote learning,’ and at present it seems to be Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Hobbies and Activities

I discovered long ago that I love to travel. I was fascinated by circumnavigations, whether fictional or actual, and have done about five of them so far. It is as difficult as it is educational and I found that it is one of the very few activities that satiates, if not stimulates my curiosity.

Career Goals

After many years of work in information technology, instructional design, volunteer work, and many random others, I will leverage my education and experience in this graduate program to consult with entrepreneurs, business managers, and others who have interest and energy to address business communication challenges.
